swing state blues (and reds)

November 14, 2012 by Chip

21 hours of red, white, and blue. I spent election day cross-crossing Florida a bit for the wonderful folks at The New Yorker with a really amazing crew of photographers I had no idea I was shooting alongside (Peter van Agtmael, Kenneth Jarecke, Stanley Greene, Jon Lowenstein, Andrea Bruce, Landon Nordeman, etc.) with until I starting seeing galleries coming in on their site. Florida is a crazy state.  There is no denying that any weird story that happens to pop [...]

the right coast

July 3, 2012 by Chip

Ahhh…color, beach, bikinis.  I really enjoy Florida. I was recently commissioned for a five-day marketing shoot running around Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Kennedy Space Center and all the places that encompass the Space Coast to show off the potpourri of touristy things to do in the area.  I knew NASA.  I knew Ron Jon’s.  I knew a few other things from my time coming to the area as a kid every year to visit the grandparents, but gigs like this [...]

legoland florida (aka primary color heaven)

October 28, 2011 by chip

Red, Yellow, Blue, Green…any possible color you can think of.  Everywhere.  Literally. I can’t think of really a better place to feed my addiction to color than LEGOLAND Florida, and luckily I get to call them a regular client.  The gig, which I haven’t really talked much about out here in Socialmedialand, fell in my lap from a great recommendation from another photographer in LA who called me to cover their initial press conference (last photo).  The historic, but [...]

FOCUSED

August 17, 2011 by chip

I’m convinced most of my most exciting ideas come from Starbucks-stained napkins…most of which get crumpled up into a pocket and forgotten about.  This one stuck for some reason…and now this little napkin is reality. FOCUSED came out of an idea to rejuvenate some film I had.  I had no idea how that would happen, but all I knew is I wanted it to be a shared effort amongst my favorite photographers. On a three hour trip to Miami to [...]

a little saturation for your walls

December 10, 2010 by chip

Looking for something to fill that gaping white abyss on your wall?  Just in time for Christmas, I made a small gallery of fine art prints available for sale through Photoshelter.  All signed and printed on Canson Premium High Gloss Resin Coated paper.  Eye candy within four corners of oversaturated goodness. Check it out!  Here. Tweet

who dat?

November 23, 2009 by chip

Good thing about covering a 1-9 team?  Lots of offense.  Bad thing about covering a 1-9 team?  All that offense is from the other team you’re not there to cover. Alas, the Saints were much more fun to shoot as they are now 10-0 for the first time in franchise history.  Our poor Bucs fall once again…hence the lack of red in this edit. Tweet

mmm-mmm…that is a tasty burger

July 29, 2009 by chip

So it goes that when I get a travel piece on local restaurants for The New York Times in my backyard, the week is deluged with rain…oh well.  I had to make do with what I could during the stormy weather waiting it out in my car in hopes that vacationers would resurface as the skies cleared.  Luckily, Anna Maria Island is pretty much fish-in-a-barrel photographically and I was still able to get some frames to send up to the [...]

reset

February 4, 2009 by chip

Ok. I moved my blog yet again.  It’s here.  It’s not moving. And it’s blank. There’s something great about having a photo blog with no photos on it….and to be honest, I’m kind of at that point in my career. One giant blank page. Tweet
