I lost something near and dear to me this spring. The color red. For years, Sarasota has been the Spring Training home to the Cincinnati Reds, and with that came a stadium full of brightly painted, beautiful backgrounds of red, blue, and white. It was heaven.
Then the Baltimore Orioles came to town and quickly drained the stadium of all color. They painted everything black, grey, and dark green. Everything.
I only covered a handful of games this year, and while the team was breaking attendance records (good for the city), they were breaking my heart with their unwarranted, ruthless destruction and desaturation of everything I loved. I love covering Spring Training, but at least paint something orange, guys.
Have a heart, Baltimore.
